RE: Make-up Days

We are in receipt of your letter dated February 7, 2007 relating to the make-up days.

It appears that some districts are using what are referred to as Superintendent’s days instead of shortening the Spring break since many parents and staff have made plans changing of which will result in substantial costs.

Since teachers were required to report on the “freeze” days (February 5 and 6), those two days could be two of the three days that can be counted as student attendance available to the District and thus not disrupt the parents’, students’ and staffs’ Spring break.

The day scheduled for May 16th is troubling as it occurs when some exams are being given and is therefore disruptive. It is also close to when other exam preparations are occurring.

The other, parent conference day (February 16), is scheduled during the day when many parents are working; therefore, very few parents can attend.

Please advise us if these alternatives have been discussed and the reasons for their rejection.

Please also advise us of the accommodations that will be made for those parents and staff who, due to prior commitments, will be penalized if they do not conclude their Spring break as scheduled.
