Dear Colleague,
The BTF has reached an agreement with the District to reimburse affected teachers for the overpayment of prescription co-pay.
The BTF contract calls for a $5.00 co-pay for generic drugs and a $10.00 co-pay for brand name drugs.
Some health care providers (the HMO’s) changed their coverage by eliminating the $5/$10 co-pay option (yes, we checked to make sure). It may be reinstated.
Since our contract calls for the $5/$10 co-pay, the District will “self-insure” for the difference between the $5/$10 co-pay and what teachers were charged.
The co-pay increase was put into effect as early as January 1, 2001 for some plans (Univera), therefore, teachers are entitled to reimbursement of overcharges commencing on that date or the date your plan changed, i.e., January 1, 2002 for Community Blue and Independent Health.
For claims of overpayment by teachers from January 1, 2001 (or 2002 depending on your plan) to the present; use the form enclosed with this letter. Additional forms are available from your Delegate Chair or from the BTF. If your pharmacist cannot provide a printout (most can), your receipts will suffice (make copies). Remember for claims dating back to January 2001 disregard the dates indicated on the form.
For new reimbursement claims, use this form but take note of the dates. Once again, we suggest keeping a copy.
There will be an initial flood of claims so there will obviously be a delay in receiving your reimbursement. They will be processed as quickly as possible.
Thank you for your patience while we pursued this issue with the District.
Sincerely,
Philip Rumore
President
