BTF BLASTS RETURN OF SUSPENDED STUDENT TO THE SAME SCHOOL

BUFFALO, NEW YORK (Wednesday, December 1, 2004) – Phil Rumore, President of the 3600 member Buffalo Teachers Federation blasted the return of a student involved in a "bloody and vicious" fight that resulted in a teacher being severely injured.

"That a student, who was involved in one of the most vicious incidents in our schools, was returned to the same school after just 15 days is an act of gross incompetence and nothing less than a slap in the face to the parents, students and staff at Lafayette", Rumore stated.

The suspension report states:

"It is these outrageous actions of the District that are the cause of the violence in schools," Rumore continued. "The message that is being sent to the rest of our schools is "Fighting is OK". Regardless of who started the name calling, it takes two to fight."

"All students must know that NO fighting will be tolerated in our schools. Absolutely NO fighting will be tolerated and there will be NO exceptions," Rumore concluded.

Rumore reported that teachers and staff are so angered they had planned to walk out of Lafayette in protest.
